> Preparation Before Washing
Close zippers and fasteners — Zip up the sweatshirt and secure any other fasteners to prevent them from snagging the mesh layer or other garments.
Turn the garment inside out — This helps protect the outer mesh from friction and prevents pilling on the French terry side.
Use a laundry bag (optional) — Consider placing the hoodie in a mesh laundry bag for extra protection.
> Washing
Choose a gentle cycle — Use your washer’s delicate or gentle cycle to reduce agitation and protect the mesh.
Cool or cold water — Wash in cool or cold water to preserve both the cotton fibers and the polyester mesh. Warm or hot water can weaken or shrink cotton and warp or melt synthetic fibers over time.
Mild detergent — A gentle, pH-neutral or mild detergent is best. Harsh detergents can fade colors and damage the mesh.
Avoid bleach and fabric softeners — Chlorine bleach can discolor or damage the mesh, and too much softener can cause a waxy buildup on French terry.
> Drying
Reshape and hang or lay flat — After the wash, gently reshape the hoodie (especially the hood and cuffs). You can hang it on a sturdy hanger or lay it flat on a drying rack or clean towel.
Air-dry for best results — Air-drying helps prevent shrinkage of the cotton and keeps the polyester mesh layer from warping or snagging in the dryer. If you must use a dryer, opt for low heat or a no-heat “air dry” setting, and remove the garment promptly to reduce wrinkling.
Avoid high heat — High dryer temperatures can cause the cotton to shrink and degrade the synthetic mesh fibers.
> Ironing & Steaming
Check the mesh layer — Direct ironing of the polyester mesh can melt or deform it. If you need to remove wrinkles, carefully iron only the French terry side on a low setting.
Use a pressing cloth — Place a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the mesh if you absolutely must iron the mesh area. Avoid leaving the iron in one place too long.
Consider steaming — If the garment is wrinkled, use a steamer at a safe distance. Steam can gently relax wrinkles in cotton without direct heat contact on the mesh.
> Storage & Maintenance
Hang or fold gently — Store the hoodie on a broad, sturdy hanger or folded neatly to avoid stretching the fabric around the shoulders or snagging the mesh.
Avoid overcrowding — Keep enough space around the garment so the mesh isn’t constantly rubbing against rough surfaces or zippers on neighboring clothes.
Spot cleaning — For small stains, spot clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent rather than washing the entire garment repeatedly.
Check for snags — After each wear or wash, inspect the mesh layer for any loose threads. Snip them carefully rather than pulling.
By washing your hooded zipper sweatshirt in cold water on a gentle cycle, turning it inside out, and air-drying (or using low heat in the dryer), you’ll extend the life of both the French terry cotton and the polyester mesh. Proper storage and minimal heat exposure are key to keeping the mesh intact and the cotton fibers soft and comfortable.
